How is CALPICO® made ?
A pioneer of lactic acid bacteria beverage since 1919, CALPICO® is made from a unique fermentation process. We use a proprietary lactic acid bacteria called "Lactobacillus Helveticus” which has been passed down for over 100 years. It’s the secret formula to the sweet and tangy flavor combined with a surprisingly fruity and refreshing taste.
What do the polka dots stand for?
CALPICO®'s polka dots symbolize the Milky Way. It's meant to celebrate CALPICO®'s birthday, July 7th, 1919 which is the day of the Tanabata or the Star Festival. This day is celebrated to commemorate a romantic story of two star-crossed lovers, Altair and Vega, who were only allowed to meet once a year on this very day. Every year on Tanabata, it's tradition to write your wishes on colorful strips of paper and hang them on bamboo branches.
Have CALPICO® items been reformulated recently?
From 2021 production all CALPICO® PET bottle RTD (Ready-to-Drink) items (16.9 fl. oz. and 50.7 fl. oz.) have improved product specifications. The most noteworthy change is that the amount of sugar was reduced by 40%. Please continue to enjoy the sweet and tangy CALPICO® flavors with less sugar.
Distribution will begin in the United States and Canada from 2021 spring, but timing will depend on market locations.
What kind of sweeteners are in the reformulated CALPICO® PET bottle products with sugar?
Sucralose and Maltitol are used.
What allergens are in CALPICO® items?
Every CALPICO® item contains milk. In addition, all RTD items have soy fiber. Also, Coconut-derived ingredient is included in both Strawberry and Mango. (However, CALPICO® drinks do not contain peanuts and are not currently manufactured at facilities that process peanuts.) As there are variances between each of our products, please review ingredients and allergens carefully before consuming.
Do your Ready-to-Drink CALPICO® products need to be refrigerated?
Our beverages are shelf stable which means they do not need to be refrigerated prior to opening. However, we do recommend refrigeration after opening to maintain quality and freshness.
When can a baby start drinking CALPICO® ?
Babies can drink CALPICO® after they begin eating baby food. However, keep in mind that CALPICO® is not a substitute for milk.
